Beaver Dam Drainage Basin Improvements
A major area of the Town and an outlaying area (0.48 square miles) drain through a stream located in the central portion of the Town. This stream is known as Beaver Dam Creek. Serious flooding during a large rain event in September 2016 and again during Hurricane Matthew on October 8, 2016 caused damage to buildings, culverts, and the embankments surrounding this drainage way.
Three major projects have been identified along the creek itself, identified as Area A, Area B, and Area C. The drainage area is so large that several targeted studies and repairs are also necessary. The first targeted study was the commercial area identified as the Princeton Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). Drainage improvements for Area A and the Downtown BID are funded by the Golden Leaf Foundation with construction expected to be complete by December 31, 2021.
